Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs): By the end of this course the student should be able to: 1. Define different domains of CAM therapy and areas of application. 2. Describe some CAM methods such as herbal therapy, oxygen therapy, homeopathy and aromatherapy. 3. Discuss cancer biology backgrounds as a foundation for Alternative cancer therapy. 4. Explain the role of CAM therapy in cancer and chronic illnesses.
Course objectives :
Complementary and alternative medical (CAM) therapy course (PHR 589) provides an overview that facilitates student understanding of CAM topics and the integration of such topics into the medical and pharmaceutical curricula. It emphasizes the five domains of CAM modalities used for the management of cancer and chronic diseases, e.g. homeopathy, herbal therapy, and oxygen therapy, aromatherapy. The course provides a necessary cancer biology background and how CAM modalities such as nutrition, stress and lifestyle management can be rationally combined with conventional methods into an integrative approach in cancer treatment.
