The student will acquire basic knowledge about the physiology of different body systems including blood, CNS, digestive system.
Course objectives :
1. Cell membrane transport and mechanisms of control systems of the body 2. Properties of human blood, cellular components of the blood, blood typing. 3. Organization of the nervous system , functions of sympathetic and parasympathetic NS, chemical transmitters in ANS 4. Physiology of saliva, esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine and digestive function of pancreas Functions of liver and gall bladder. 5. CVS; Properties of cardiac muscle, innervation of the heart, cardiac cycle, heart sounds, heart rate , cardiac output, ABP, coronary circulation, tissue fluid. 6. Respiration: Structure, functions and mechanisms of breathing, diffusion of gases and gas transport, control of breathing. 7. Endocrine system: thyroid and parathyroid glands, adrenal gland and pancreas, Pituitary gland 8. Renal system: functions of the kidney and steps of urine formation
Course description :
Oral discussion following the weekly presentations during the tutorials, quizzes and interactive learning. (90 marks) Mid-term exam (60 marks) Final Written exam (150 marks)
