PC 103 – Organic chemistry II
Prof. Dr. Makarem saeed, Ass.Prof. Dr. Ola Hassan Rizk, AA.Prof. Dr. Omaima Gaber and Ass. Prof. Dr. Mohamed El Kersh
Course lecturer :
Esraa Abdin, Yasmin Khalifa, Yuossef El Shamy and Mina
Course assistant :
The prime objective of this course is to provide students with the knowledge on chemical characters of organic compounds with different functional groups (aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acid derivatives, phenols, sulphonic acids and carbohydrates). The course aims to give a chance for students to apply the basic knowledge in organic chemistry in designing methods for drug synthesis. The course includes practical tuition helping the student to identify organic compounds of different nature.
Course objectives :
- Aromaticity and electrophilic substitution reactions of benzene.
- Aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes and ketones.
- Carboxylic acids and their derivatives (acid halides, anhydrides, esters and amides)
- Phenolic compounds
- Sulphonic acids and Sulphonamides.
