Course objectives :
Reading: By the end of the course, students will be able to: • skim simple, direct texts to determine their main idea (gist) • locate and use ideas, information, words and phrases from the text to answer MCQs (specific info.) • produce pronunciation of a very limited repertoire of learnt words and phrases can be understood with some effort by native speakers used to dealing with speakers of their language group • answer a variety of simple, directly stated questions about the text to show that their reading of simple texts is generally accurate (specific info.) • show understanding of everyday signs and notices in public places, such as streets, restaurants, railway stations and in workplaces • find specific information in simple everyday material such as advertisements, brochures, menus and timetables • show understanding of short, simple messages, e.g. on postcards Writing: By the end of the course, students will be able to: • compose sentences where the subjects and verbs generally agree • use connectives to organize their sentences (sequencers: first of all, next, then, finally, after all) • link ideas using ‘and’, \’but\’ and \’because\’ when necessary • write a cv • work with some of the types of mistakes learners make when writing: mistakes in grammar, vocabulary and spelling Speaking: By the end of this course, students will be able to: • establish basic social contact by using the simplest everyday polite forms of: greetings and farewells; introductions; saying please, thank you, sorry, etc • ask questions using simple question words such as: \’how\’, \’\”why\’ etc • express opinion using simple phrases of agreement/ disagreement e.g. \’I like this\’, \’that is not good\’, \’I disagree\’ etc • use basic sentences and memorised phrases to communicate • show only limited control of a few simple grammatical structures • produce pronunciation of very limited repertoire f learnt words and phrases that can be understood with some effort by native speakers used to dealing with speakers of their language Listening: By the end of this course, students will be able to: • Listen for gist • Listen for specific information
Course description :
Students at this level can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. They can introduce themselves and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know and things they have. They can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
