By the end of this course, students should be able to: • list the morphologic differences between primary and permanent teeth. • Describe the normal development of primary teeth. • Review the different aspects in restoration of primary teeth, as well as different restorative materials used in pediatric dentistry. • Deliver simple dental treatment procedures for both cooperative and potentially uncooperative pediatric dental patient. • Perform vital pulpotomy procedures for primary teeth, using complete isolation technique. • adapt a stainless steel crown for full coverage of primary molars. • deduce the appropriate amount of anesthetic solution injected for child dental patient • relate the appropriate method of behavior modification to be used with each child. • Conduct an effective assessment of gingival and periodontal condition of the child dental patient • Discuss management techniques for different child behavioures. • Relat different occlusions both in primary and permanent teeth
Course objectives :
This course includes basic knowledge about child development and psychology, with comprehensive understanding of behavior modification techniques for young patients. The course consists of preclinical and clinical sessions. The preclinical part introduces students to restorative procedures and pulp therapy of primary teeth, in preparation for the clinical practice. During the clinical sessions, students are required to perform simple restorative procedures for children., including restorative dentistry, pulp therapy, and full coverage of primary molars. The course also includes the development of occlusion from primary through mixed dentition stages
