By the end of the course, students will be able to: • Intellectual Skills: – Known application of radioisotopes in pharmacy – Understand The physics of radioactivity and the applications of radioisotopes and radiopharmaceuticals in medical diagnosis – Identify the proper radiopharmaceutical to be used for a certain clinical situation. • Practical Skills: – Differentiate between diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, and explain the characteristics of each – Select the proper radiopharmaceutical to be used for a certain clinical situation. – Explain the various mechanisms of uptake/localization of radiopharmaceuticals.

The course includes: • Introduction to radiopharmaceuticals • Introduction to nuclear chemistry • Types of radiation • Description of gamma camera. • Production of radionuclides. • Diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals. • Therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals. • Positron Imation tomography (PET) • Hot lab.
