By the end of this course the student must be able to: 1. Recognize the neuromuscular transmission and receptors, which is necessary to understand the action of muscle relaxants. 2. Understand the functions of liver and some endocrine glands which may affect the process of anesthesia. 3. Interpret the physiological changes that occur during pregnancy and physiology of the fetus. 4. Understand the acid-base balance water and electrolytes balance and how the body temperature is maintained

Course objectives :

This course contains the study of the following topics: Neuromuscular transmission, functions of the liver, and liver function tests, hypo- and hyper-functions of some endocrine glands ( pancreas, thyroid, parathyroid, and suprarenal ), physiological changes during pregnancy and physiology of the foetus, acid base balance, water and electrolytes balance and lastly body temperature and its regulation
